本研究對中國大陸省際新聞相互間的流通進行了長時段的定量研究，它在幾個方 面呈現出一定的創新努力。第一，本研究提供了一個初步的省際∕區域新聞傳播流量 分析的整體框架，首次將國際傳播中跨國新聞流通的研究框架拓闊為對中國國內省際 間的研究，並用以檢驗這一方法對某些大國內（例如：俄羅斯、中國大陸、印度等） 區域之間的資訊流通研究有效性。我們希望借助必要的調整和補充，拓闊相關的研究 領域，以增強該理論框架的解說能力。第二，運用長時段系統的資料搜集和內容分析 的研究方法，探索中國大陸新聞媒介省際新聞資源縱向分布，並初步描述其新聞流通 之狀況和時空變化之連續性。第三，就後毛澤東時代中國出現的區域化、地方化互動 趨勢及橫向網路的情況從新聞傳播的角度提供第一手資料，從而逐步嘗試構畫出一幅 當代中國的地理政治資訊地圖，它可以為諸如政治科學、公共管理，以及社會與經濟 領域的其他研究工作提供基礎資料。
英文摘要
Existing abundant literature on the news flow study has just focused on the international or transnational level. However, the flow of news and information within national boundaries is equally important, especially for geographically large countries with a vast, diverse and disparate population. Mainland China is certainly a case in point. The purpose of this pioneering study is to further expand the application of international news flow framework to the national boundaries through its empirical basis on the case study of China's inter-provincial news exchange. The possible contributions of the current study can be viewed in several respects. First, it uses the conceptual and methodological framework of international news flow study to test the domestic situation and hence extend the explanatory and predictive power of the research tradition. Second, it takes a longitudinal analysis in order to identify shifts in the pattern of news flow since the 1950s. Third, it provides some first-hand empirical evidence on the evolutionary process of decentralisation in post-Mao Chinese reform.
